A Tablet Running Both Windows and Android Side By Side

Samsung ATIV Q tablet

The latest innovation from Samsung is the ATIV Q tablet, a streamlined 13-inch tablet that is extremely powerful and not that chunky for a tight competitor to the likes of Microsoft Surface Pro. It is thin, extremely powerful, and has a large brilliant QHD resolution screen, which is higher than Full HD. QHD is 3200x1800 pixels, while FHD is 1920x1280 pixels. Let’s take a brief look at this device.

Technical Specifications

The tablet-laptop mash-up is not yet in the market. We may update this post as it is made available in the market. Here are the brief technical specifications of the tablet.

Display 13.3 inch; 3200x1800 px (the highest in the market); 16 million colors
Processor Intel Haswell Core i5 processor (details unknown)
RAM 4 GB
Graphics Intel HD 4000
Storage 128 GB SSD
Battery life 9 hours of usage
Operating system(s) Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean; Windows 8
Weight 1.29 kg
Other features Camera (720p HD recording)
YouTube upload support
USB 3.0 and Micro USB
Micro HDMI

The technical specifications are not complete as Samsung has not yet revealed the details yet. However, from what we can see, this is one of the best portable Windows 8 tablets out there. It can indeed be a tight competition to other existing tablets, notably Microsoft Surface Pro and iPad 4. Also, it is probably the lightest of all mid-range Windows 8 tablets that have a screen size of 13 inch or greater.

The resolution is one very important aspect that makes this tablet pretty unique. It is QHD+ (Quad HD+) at 3200x1800. If you remember our earlier post on display resolutions, Quad HD is 2560x1440 pixels, which is close to iPad 4’s resolution. This extreme resolution and an aspect ratio of 16:9 makes ATIV Q the best in the current market to watch movies or play games or browse with all the richness there is.

The design of the tablet is also unique. It has a keyboard and a stand at the top of the keyboard that contains the motherboard, processor and all the internal components. A depression formed on the top of the keyboard acts as the placeholder for the stand.

Just as other innovative Windows tablet designs you can find, this is a quite unique one. The hinge on top of the stand can be used to rotate the display in 360 degrees. This is a design quite similar to the Acer Aspire R7 we previewed earlier. Here, you have some of the pictures of the ATIV Q.

As mentioned earlier, the tablet hybrid has two operating systems, Windows 8 and Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2. The tablet has a home button with Windows logo that can be used to switch between Windows 8 and Android.

In addition to all these, ATIV Q comes with a stylus similar to the S pen on Galaxy Note family. This is a great added advantage to the Android/Windows dual OS device. One other similar device was introduced by Asus a few days ago, Asus Transformer Trio that also has Android along with Windows 8.

We will not be seeing ATIV Q right now in the market. It will however come to us pretty soon. Also, these innovations will create a new era of computers that come with Android and Windows preinstalled, working side by side. It will take our productivity to a new level altogether with the capability of running Windows and Android applications at the same time.

What Is the Role of a Firewall, and How Does It Secure a Network From Unsafe Traffic?

To understand firewalls, basic understanding of how networks function is requisite. Deep down, how do the packets of information that you send reach the intended receivers? How do the messages intended for you reach you safely? And how does it all function like clockwork? Let’s understand the basics of firewalls and see how a firewall secures the traffic in and out of a network. Consider this scenario for getting an understanding of how firewalls work. Say, you open up your browser to book a flight ticket for your upcoming vacation, and your computer is conveniently insecure without a firewall. Let’s say you come across an intriguing email that gives an offer you can’t refuse. You open the email and click a link, and bam! An unwanted piece of spyware is installed on your system. The spyware then proceeds to sit on your system tray, hidden from your eyes, tracking the keystrokes you make, reading the top-secret files you have, and looking for potentially rewarding information, such...

How to Send Email in Your Own Language Script Through Gmail?

Have you ever had trouble sending an email to a distant relative who speaks a different language altogether? It has never been easy on email applications to send messages in other languages. Google’s popular email service, Gmail has come up with transliteration tools and other language input tools to make the service much better. You can type using Gmail interface in any language that you want. First of all, you need to select the languages that you want to use in composer. For this, go to Gmail settings and you will see the ‘Language’ option under General. Here, go to advanced language options and put a check mark to ‘Enable input tools’. Here, you can transliterate (type in English the words in other languages to have them appear in correct script), use a virtual keyboard, or edit your input method with the help of a regular keyboard to convert words into other alphabet. Transliteration feature was available although limited in Gmail. Select the input tools from the list by d...

Digital Marketing Done Properly in the New Age

I suppose it’s coincidence that this post appears almost exactly one year after Blue Bugle went sort of inactive. Today, the blog doesn’t enjoy as many readers as it once used to. This unfortunate thing is due to my hectic schedule in my new day job as senior content writer for an organization called MSys. This job gives me more opportunities to explore the separate aspects of the digital marketing domain. In the past, all we used to do was promoting our blog posts through social media at random thereby trying to gather as many visitors as possible. You never studied the prospects, the market, or the social channels you promote your stuff to.  Most of the SEO companies out there prided themselves in creating spammy blog comments to create links to client websites. Needless to say, most of these plans never worked or had less positive impact. Now, if you follow the same spammy activities, you are sure to get a ban at best. I had to come up with a new marketing plan for MSys th...
